Drones

3 Years on from “The 2nd Law”, Muse returned with their 7th studio album in “Drones”, an album delving further into the hard rock side at times and released in June of 2015. Featuring songs like “Psycho”, “Revolt” and “Defector”, it features a variety of sounds and themes and in both an elegant and explosive way.

The albums theme is that of revolting against the system, with songs like “Psycho” talking about being made into a killing machine by your Sergeant, and “Revolt” being out……revolting, I suppose. The album starts off very strong with “Dead inside”, simply a beautiful song for me with that section towards the end where the vocals go nuts and hit notes most of us dream of.

The story and theme of this album run strong, and you really feel that in the songs, its clear when listening to them that they all match up almost like one big story. Personally, I really appreciate that from an album when it works, for me on this album I feel as though I start to lose it a little towards the end, I was trying but I think it burnt me out slight by the 10 minutes for “The Globalist”.

This is not to say that the end of the album is bad, more so to say that the story becomes stretched towards the end for me. These songs can be great when listened to individually, and that is what I would recommend for anyone who hasn’t heard this album.

It does need to be noted though that despite that criticism, Muse display an exceptional sound in this album, the instrumentals as always are golden and the vocals are to die for, being highlighted on songs like “Dead Inside”. Overall, a good album with some awesome hits on there that are worth a good listen to.
